Homebrew (macOS)
On a Mac with Apple silicon you can install Shellvane with Homebrew. First add the Shellvane tap and trust it (recent Homebrew refuses third-party taps until you do), then install.
Add and trust the tap (once)
brew tap csturiale/shellvane && brew trust csturiale/shellvane
The app
brew install --cask shellvane
The app updates itself (Settings › Updates); brew upgrade --cask --greedy shellvane works too. The CLI updates with brew upgrade. Uninstalling keeps your hosts and vault (in ~/Library/Application Support/Shellvane).
Uninstall
brew uninstall --cask shellvane
Command-line companion
shellvane-cli lists and opens your hosts from any terminal and imports ~/.ssh/config. It is a single file: put it on your PATH.
The command-line companion (macOS and Linux)
brew install shellvane-cli
After downloading
Windows
Run the installer. If SmartScreen says it protected your PC, choose More info › Run anyway (the app is not code-signed yet).
Shellvane opens with a short tour: import your hosts or add the first one.
macOS
Open the .dmg and drag Shellvane to Applications.
First open: if macOS says it cannot verify the app, open System Settings › Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway (once). With Homebrew this is not needed.
AppImage: chmod +x shellvane-linux-amd64.AppImage and run it; it updates itself in place.
macOS says Shellvane cannot be opened?
Until the app is notarized by Apple, macOS blocks it on first open when it is downloaded with a browser ("Apple could not verify…", Move to Trash). Installed with Homebrew it opens normally. With the disk image: open System Settings › Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway for Shellvane (once), or run in Terminal:
Every release publishes a manifest with the SHA-256 of each file, signed with the project key. The app checks it before installing an update; the source code is on GitHub.
